About Us:
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is looking for a creative and multi-skilled candidate to join its office in Kathmandu, Nepal, as a Communications Specialist. This role supports IWMI's global strategies and the country operational plan in Nepal. The Communications Specialist will develop content, support events and campaigns, and collaborate with the Communications & Knowledge Management team to ensure high-quality standards and interdisciplinary inclusion.

Responsibilities of Communications Specialist:
- Implement IWMI's global strategies and country operational plan in Nepal.
- Develop and execute quarterly and annual work plans.
- Participate in weekly Communications & Knowledge Management team meetings.
- Support IWMI's participation in national and regional events by preparing communications plans and key messages.
- Write and edit articles for IWMI's global websites, newsletters, and other outlets.
- Develop audience-led communications and knowledge management outputs.
- Prepare and manage social media content for IWMI's official accounts.
- Liaise with project leaders, researchers, and stakeholders for content and outreach materials.
- Organize press conferences, journalist visits, and proactive media outreach in Nepal.
- Increase subscribers to IWMI's global contact list and develop targeted mailings and newsletters.
- Coordinate the production of quality video and photographic documentation.
- Engage consultants for communications-related work and ensure timely delivery of quality outputs.
- Ensure compliance with IWMI branding guidelines and funders' visibility requirements.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of communications activities.
- Support internal communications strategies as required.
Required Qualification & Experience for Communications Specialist:
- Master's degree in mass communications, journalism, international development, sociology, economics, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating communications and knowledge management plans.
- Experience organizing policy dialogues, multi-stakeholder engagement platforms, or similar events.
- Presentation and event facilitation experience.
- Experience working in research organizations or multi-disciplinary research-for-development programs.
- Experience working in an international environment.
Required Skills & Knowledge for Communications Specialist:
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English and Nepali.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, web applications, and digital tools.
- Multimedia skills, including photography, video, and audio production.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- Ability to communicate scientific and technical concepts clearly.
- Strong analytical skills and a positive team player.
- Knowledge of diversity, inclusion, and gender issues in Nepal.
- Willingness to travel to field locations.
Salary & Benefit for Communications Specialist:
- This is a nationally recruited position open to Nepali nationals. IWMI offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long-term disability coverage. The initial contract is for three years, with the possibility of extension.
