Background and Purpose of the Assignment:

WFP Nepal is expanding its support to the national school meals program, which reaches almost 3.3 million school children. The Program Policy Officer (School Meals Program Coordinator) will oversee the implementation of the school meals projects in Surkhet and Jajarkot districts. This role involves capacity strengthening for local governments and ensuring the effective and sustainable implementation of the home-grown school meals approach.

Responsibilities of Program Policy Officer:

  • Provide project management support to ensure compliance with WFP standards and donor requirements.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on project activities and lessons learned.
  • Support annual advocacy meetings to promote sustainable home-grown school feeding approaches.
  • Organize training and capacity-building activities for government staff at various levels.
  • Participate in training and advocacy meetings related to School Health and Nutrition (SHN) and SMP.
  • Develop and implement M&E systems to monitor and report on the SMP.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor program activities and ensure coordination with stakeholders.
  • Address operational issues in the field and identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Ensure that school meals and broader health interventions are reflected in provincial plans and policies.
  • Document project progress, lessons learned, and best practices.

Required Qualifications & Experience for Program Policy Officer:

  • Education: Advanced University (Masters) degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  • Experience: At least one year of relevant postgraduate professional experience. More years of experience are desirable. Relevant experience in implementing technical programs at the field level.

Required Skills & Knowledge for Program Policy Officer:

  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in Food Security, Nutrition, and Education programs.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Nepali.
  • Ability to develop networks, facilitate workshops, and work independently.
  • Competency in MS Office; Nepali typing skills are an asset.
