Trades Helper Job Description:
The U.S. Mission in Kathmandu, Nepal is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Trades Helper. This vacancy is open to all interested applicants. The work schedule for this position is full-time, 40 hours per week. The candidate must be able to start working within a reasonable period after receiving agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications.

Duty & Responsibilities of Trades Helper:
- Assist skilled trade technicians with routine and preventive maintenance, new installations, and demolition work.
- Perform various tasks in skilled trade shops, including maintenance and repair work throughout the Embassy Compound office buildings, grounds, and residential properties.
- May be assigned tasks including material handling, painting, custodial type work, snow removal, common laborer work, and grounds maintenance and gardening work.
Required Qualification & Experience for Trades Helper:
- Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of maintenance or construction semi-skilled work experience in skilled trades such as mechanical (HVAC and plumbing), electrical, carpentry, with significant focus on building systems.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Language for Trades Helper:
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to use hand tools, small handheld power tools, vacuum cleaners, gardening tools, and ladders. Must keep work sites free of clutter and debris, and adhere to safety practices and requirements. Must hold a valid Class A and B driving license.
- Job Knowledge: Basic technical understanding of major building mechanical systems and equipment. Familiarity with construction techniques and workplace safety, including personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Language: Limited knowledge of reading, writing, and speaking English is required. Good working knowledge of reading, writing, and speaking Nepali is required.
Salary & Benefit for Trades Helper:
- Salary: NPR ₨ 700,097 per year
