The Center for Mental Health and Counseling – Nepal (CMC-Nepal) is a leading national-level NGO committed to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being in Nepal. We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health Supervisor and Psychosocial Counselor under the Empowered Women Prosperous Nepal (EWPN) project. Funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the EWPN project aims to empower women and promote gender equality across Nepal's Karnali, Madhesh, and Sudurpachhim provinces. Focusing on enhancing access to mental health and psychosocial support services, particularly for women and girls affected by gender-based violence (GBV) and other adversities, this project is at the forefront of driving positive change in our society.

Psychosocial Counsellor Job Description:

As a Psychosocial Counselor (PSC), you will play a pivotal role in providing trauma-counseling, support, and care to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will empower survivors to heal, rebuild their lives, and access the resources they need to live meaningfully. This position offers a unique opportunity to coordinate with local governments, extend support to Community Psychosocial Workers (CPSWs), Case Managers, Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), and establish strong communication and networks with health facilities in EWPN project activity locations. You will be responsible for providing effective psychosocial services to GBV survivors at the One-Stop Crisis Management Center (OCMC) hospitals.

Responsibilities of Psychosocial Counsellor:

  • Identify and assess the physical development, health, and other needs for well-being based on age, mental condition, race, ethnicity, etc., by filling out intake forms.
  • Develop and prepare effective GBV response and care plans and strategies for overall well-being, support, and counseling services of individuals in respective project locations.
  • Facilitate/conduct non-discriminatory survivor-centric counseling sessions.
  • Supervise and work with GBV survivors in individual or group settings to carry out interventions based on the nature of the problem.
  • Coordinate necessary interventions and referrals for sensitive cases requiring additional support.
  • Record and document individual cases, prepare case studies, and success stories regularly while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Deliver OCMC-based psychosocial services and plan for frequent field visits.
  • Follow up for the well-being of GBV survivors and compile detailed progress reports of services delivered.
  • Support case managers, CPSWs, and CPSW coordinators as required.
  • Coordinate with local government units (LGUs) and district-level stakeholders.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by CMC-Nepal/supervisor as needed.

Required Qulification & Experience for Psychosocial Counsellor:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or Nursing.
  • Completion of a 6-month psychosocial counseling course under the National Health Training Center (NHTC) or any other recognized professional organization.
  • Candidates with an MA in Psychology/Counselling Psychology or those who have completed a PGD course in Counseling Psychology are encouraged to apply.
  • At least two years of experience working as a psychosocial counselor, preferably with GBV survivors.

Required Skills for Psychosocial Counsellor:

  • Highly motivated to work in multicultural and challenging situations with strong leadership and coordination/communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PPT) and proficiency in English and Nepali report writing.
  • Possession of a two-wheeler is preferred.

Salary & Benefit for Psychosocial Counsellor:

  • As per the project agreement between UNFPA and CMC-Nepal.
